Volaré Mexican Restaurant & Bar officially opened in Franklin on Tuesday, Feb. 25, the business said in a Facebook post. It's located along the Yantic River, near the Route 2 interchange and the Norwich Business Park.
The restaurant is putting a special spin on a typical Mexican spot's menu.
"We specialize in authentic flavors like our savory chicken mole, sizzling fajitas, and signature tacos," Volaré says on its Facebook page. "Adding a twist, we also offer a touch of Mediterranean to our menu."
As Volaré opens, diners can choose from 14 appetizers, 12 types of tacos, four salads, 11 entrées, and five desserts. A few customers were able to get a first taste during a soft opening, sharing photos of chicken tacos and a Nutella cheesecake.
Volaré is taking over the former home of Modesto's Restaurant. The Italian favorite treated customers like "family" for nearly three decades before it closed in 2019, The Bulletin newspaper in Norwich reported.
The 7,092-square-foot building was sold in May 2022, according to a real estate listing. Town records said the property was purchased for $274,350.
After several years of work, the restaurant has been transformed into a vibrant dining space and a bar with at least 20 seats. Until its liquor permit is finalized, Volaré is temporarily allowing guests to bring their own alcohol (BYOB).
The restaurant is accepting online reservations. It has also announced plans for special Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day hours in March, running from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Volaré is open for dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays, with extended hours until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
